Plasma Rich in Growth Factors (PRGF) and Leukocyte – Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) are by-products of blood that are rich in platelets. Prior to your procedure, our surgeons will draw a small amount of blood, which will then be processed to concentrate the healing factors that platelets contain to promote blood vessel, bone and tissue growth.  This processed, platelet-rich blood is then incorporated into the graft material and used in the grafting site to facilitate healing post-surgery.

Thanks to PRGF and L-PRF, Dr. Andrew Bluhm, Dr. Steve Dorsch and Dr. Gene Vandervort can now help accelerate the body’s natural healing process. PRGF and L-PRF are techniques that use a small amount of blood from your own body. Specific plasma proteins are separated from the blood, and these plasma proteins are then used to encourage bone growth, repair soft tissues and speed up the natural healing process. Because our surgeons use your body’s natural resources, PRGF and L-PRF are completely safe, and effective, and they offer a reduced risk of infection. Our doctors use PRGF and L-PRF as part of the following treatments:

  • Bone grafting (including sinus lifts and ridge augmentation) for implants
  • Soft tissue grafting
  • Bone repair
  • Tooth extraction

PRGF and L-PRF does not need to be used in all cases, but it can be beneficial in many. If you would like to learn more about PRGF and L-PRF and its benefits, please contact Loudoun Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Our team will be happy to talk with you about plasma growth factors in Ashburn or Leesburg, Virginia.
