Loudoun Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery’s cervico-facial liposuction is a procedure designed to permanently remove unwanted fatty tissue from the neck, cheeks and chin. This procedure is ideal for those who have unwanted fat in areas that do not respond well to diet and exercise. Facial liposuction is not a treatment for obesity. If weight gain does occur after liposuction, the fat will be deposited primarily in areas that have not been treated by liposuction. The results can be affected by a variety of factors, including your physical condition, diet, genetic makeup, alcohol intake, exercise, smoking habits and skin elasticity.

The Procedure

Dr. Gene Vandervort typically performs facial liposuction under IV sedation or general anesthesia. In most cases, facial liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis in our modern facility. We will begin my making an incision that is less than a quarter inch long in the neck or face. Next, we will insert a cannula and attach it to a machine that will suction away the unwanted fatty tissue. Facial liposuction is often performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as face lifting or a chin implant.

Post-Operative Information

Once your treatment is complete, you will wear a pressure bandage continuously for the first two weeks. After those two weeks, you will wear the bandage only at night for the next four to six weeks. Any scars will become soft, flat and pale over the next six to twelve months. You may experience tingling, burning and/or numbness around the incision site, but these symptoms should be temporary. Before your appointment, please let us know if you are prone to keloid scars.
