BOTOX® cosmetic treatment is designed to reverse the effects of facial wrinkles. Worry lines, crow’s feet and laugh lines can all be a thing of the past, thanks to BOTOX’s cosmetic denervation procedure.
Before Treatment
To better understand your overall health and conditions, Dr. Gene Vandervort will thoroughly evaluate your medical history before surgery. He will also complete an examination of your facial features to locate the most effective injection sites. The treatment areas will be marked and digital photographs will show improvement following the injection(s).
The BOTOX Procedure
Most patients only feel a very small sting when BOTOX is injected. Because of this, most procedures are performed without anesthesia. The effects of the treatment are not permanent and may need to be repeated two to three times each year to retain the wrinkle-reducing effects. However, research has suggested that using BOTOX over a long period of time can cause treatment effects to last longer between treatments. Note that injections may be less effective for those over the age of 65 because BOTOX only treats expression lines or dynamic wrinkle lines; BOTOX cannot be used to repair sagging skin caused by the natural aging process.
Post-Treatment Information
After the procedure, it is common to experience slight bruising around the injection site; however, you can perform normal activities immediately. Possible side effects include temporary weakness of nearby muscles or, in rare cases, eyelid drooping. Our cosmetic surgeon will explain all associated risks during your BOTOX® consultation at Loudoun Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
